Ron Ware gave us this photo that shows his great grandparents, Margaret Melissa Bell and Thomas O'Connor, on their wedding day, August 6, 1902. Tom was Catholic and Margaret was Methodist, so as a compromise they married in her parent's ranch house, two miles east of Raton, New Mexico. Tom was a deputy sheriff in Raton when they married, then, influenced by his new bride, took a safer job with the Santa Fe Railroad. Upon retirement, the couple moved to Houston where Tom died in 1944. Ron says, “I grew up next door to Margaret and often visited her. I cherish the stories she told about her husband's career in the steam days of the railroad and his narrow escapes as a deputy sheriff in the waning days of the Old West.
