AI & Genealogy SIG
Neal Scott, Moderator

Artificial Intelligence is rapidly transforming the way we live—and genealogy is no exception. From record analysis to transcription, translation, image enhancement, and research assistance, AI is opening powerful new doors for family historians. And this isn’t just about what major platforms like Ancestry or FamilySearch are doing behind the scenes. Today, AI is a tool every genealogist can learn to use personally and effectively.

The Genealogy & AI SIG was formed for exactly this purpose: to explore, experiment, and learn together. At our organizational meeting, members quickly discovered that while our experience with AI ranges from beginner to advanced, we all share the same excitement—and the same curiosity. There is so much to learn, and no one has to do it alone.

This new SIG is a collaborative learning community where we will:

  • Share real-world experiences using AI in our genealogy research

  • Explore available AI tools and training resources

  • Learn practical techniques we can apply immediately

  • Encourage and challenge one another to build confidence and expertise

Whether you are just starting to hear about AI or already experimenting with it in your own research, you belong here. This is an opportunity to stay ahead of the curve, expand your skills, and help shape how AI is used responsibly and creatively in genealogy.

The future of genealogy is unfolding now—come explore it with us.
